See A Deleted Scene from ‘Animal Kingdom’ In Exclusive Clip

TNT’s show ‘Animal Kingdom’ is based off the 2010 film of the same name. The show follows a 17-year-old boy named Josh Cody (Finn Cole) who has to move in with his relatives after his mom dies from a heroin overdose. Josh moves in with the Codys, a criminal family run by Smurf (Ellen Barkin). The series began last summer and has been picked up for a second season.

Deleted scenes are a way of life when it comes to TV and film. So much gets shot and often times scenes get left on the cutting room floor, but most of the time we don’t know why. That’s not the case in the above clip from TNT’s ‘Animal Kingdom’ Creator and Executive Producer Jonathan Lisco tells us about a scene that got cut out and not only why he loved the clip, but why the show decided to keep it off.

If you missed this season but want to catch up, don’t worry. Animal Kingdom: The Complete First Season is available on Blu-ray and DVD on April 25, 2017.

Animal Kingdom: Season Two Books Tembi Locke for Recurring Role

Animal Kingdom has some new company. Deadline reports Tembi Locke will appear on season two of the TNT TV series.

The drama centers on a 17-year-old named “J” (Finn Cole) who moves in with his deceased mother’s family — a Southern California clan of criminals. The cast also includes Scott Speedman, Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary, Daniella Alonso, and Molly Gordon.

Locke will play “Monica, a smart, low-key woman who’s the technical brains of a fencing operation the Codys rely on to sell their stolen goods.” Season two of Animal Kingdom is expected to debut on TNT sometime later this year.

Second Screen: Animal Kingdom Emulates Its Source Material (and Then Some)

When I was a kid, TV shows based on feature films were the bottom of the barrel. Series like 9 to 5, Stir Crazy, and the truly ill-advised Delta House (a censor-scrubbed adaptation of Animal House that gave John Hughes his first writing credit) were embarrassing cash-grabs that played like very pale imitations of their source material – and, it turned out, didn’t actually grab much cash since they were always canceled within a season or two. Of course, there were exceptions to the rule like the long-running M*A*S*H, which trashed its source material every bit as thoroughly as Delta House but worked well enough on its own terms to become one of the most popular sitcoms in history. More often than not, though, TV shows based on movies were WTF endeavors like the 1983 Casablanca series NBC aired starring David Soul as Rick, Ray Liotta as Sacha and Scatman Crothers as Sam.
